Life Coaching for Executives #5 The Pursuit of Happiness

Congruence and The Wonder of it All

In my work I have recently come back to some of my spiritual roots, through helping another. You may ask: what do spiritual roots have to do with executive coaching? It really has a lot to do with personal and professional fulfillment. If we are not on the right path, unhappiness sets in. We may become restless as a result of not knowing our place in life.

Dr. Napoleon Hill spoke of having one pursuit. And when we find it; the concepts of Marcus Buckingham ring true, that we will excel at it at an accelerated pace, if it is truly in line with who we are.

For those who are starting a business, if after a while you notice that you are experiencing terribly slow progress or no progress at all, while you work what seem to be long hours; this is probably not your calling. There is a difference between this concept and the concept of hard work and the visibility of steady progress.

There will be tremendous joy (in back breaking work) in the pursuit of something if it's in line with you talents and calling. This is only the beginning. If you don't get the beginning right, you are going to be in trouble. If you get the beginning right, it's not smooth sailing, but it's fulfilling.

Knowing your calling is only the first step. The next step would be the pursuit of personal and professional excellence. Happy people are peak performers.
